New engine...

My engine blew last spring, breaking my heart. As I was a student it took me a while to get together the $5000 or so that it would cost to get a replacement (rebuilt, not new) engine. In the meantime it sat around in various spots, none of which allowed me to do any work on the thing. So I missed all of the nice sunny summer months! Dammit!

But... I got a new one and it is installed. Here's what it comes with, for you gearheads:

2004 Cummins 4BTAA
33,382 miles on it and runs mint
100% complete ready to run
Rated at 130hp/356ftlbs stock
It was in a 04 Cummins Repowered Utilimaster fed-ex type van
Perfect for high performance applications; easily capable of well over 250hp/700ftlbs
P7100 Inline pump (best for performance and fuel economy)
Transmission is a Allison 545 installed with the engine new
Behr air-to-air intercooler
Entire bell pack (starter, adapter plate, flywheel, etc)
Alternator
3" mandrel bent turbo down pipe
3" air intake
New aluminum radiator
Large bar and plate aftermarket transmission cooler
Power steering pump
Hydroboost brake booster
Radiator hoses, coolant overflow tank
Hydraulic motor mounts and cross member
Complete wiring harness and LED warning system

Also, I got another new rear end with a better gearing ratio.

Your van is inspiring. I just bought a 79 Chevy p20 step van with a straight six. I have a lot of work to do but your page will help. Thanks. . I started a blog on here... Check out the van.

Yes, please keep posting. I'm thinking of converting a p30 into a mobile pet grooming van and would love to learn from your challenges.

AHHHHH I got hooked on your story and - you're gonzo! Come back, more story! I'm dreaming up doing pretty much this. Do you still live it in? How long? How's it been? Where do/did you park? Liz in Nashville

Wondering if you've done anything else with the van. I'm starting one now and just picked up a 6BT Cummins and will swap that in and then start on the interior. Would LOVE to know more about this.

Hi... I'd been following you a while back ago and recently checked back to see how you were doing (and because me and my Boy are getting ready to purchase and convert our own step van). Do you have any updates? Will you be updating again? Would love to hear more!

Hi. I found your blog and went back and followed the whole story. Good stuff.
I have been planning what I would want to do with a step-van conversion, And I got a lot of good ideas from you. Just two questions, please.

Are you currently blogging somewhere about the use of your finished project.

Can you post pictures showing the conclusion of your project.

I hope this message reaches you, and that life is good for you.

Thanks,
Bob (aka stude53 and/or bluestude).

Hey, Hey, Paula....

I really enjoyed your blog. Very inspiring. I am looking to build an RV out of a step van also. What is the mpg? Are you glad you went with diesel? I am looking at 16' to 18' step vans. I have done tons of research and have almost decided on a composting "terlit". I am stuck on the shower wall material though. I want something light and it just hit me-- aluminum!

hey every body i'm jon i just did a work trade for the previous owner of Xfrrito and i am the proud new owner of one helluva truck. i am new to the world of souped up diesel hot rod bread trucks but i don't think i am alone since most of the work that i need is done such as time consuming and expensive at least, engine and drive train swap and interior build out.this will hopefully leave some time and space to through on some extras. once i have put together all the fluids filters and gaskets +one idler pump flush it flush it flush it it's rusty inside everywhere water is. oil/fuel flush it. next is some light exterior metal work panels and flaps and full airbrush front to back. i plan on throwing an entire air system from a big rig in as my air suspension air windowsthe engine has storage related issues not good but not bad i can't wait to see what the mpg are on the road (AT 40) hahahahahaha i have some real wild ideas ....and i have a place to put them all now too i am no wing nut this wood gas thing really works and i am contemplating dropping a trailer mounted system for wood waste gasification and approaching 35+ mpg could be in the near future pics coming soon
